In multi-storey car parks and charging hubs the ceiling-mounted busbar replaces radial cabling: each charging point is supplied by a tap-off box with dedicated protection, and new charging points are added over time without stopping the installation or redoing the lines. This is the solution adopted in the automated car park of Porta Nuova in Milan.
Tap-off boxes can integrate breakers, metering and communication for load management; the busbar rating is sized on the hub's future power, so the infrastructure grows with the vehicle fleet without replacements.
