What busbar trunking systems are

Busbar trunking systems are electrical power distribution systems made of insulated copper or aluminium conductors enclosed in a modular metal enclosure. They are designed to carry high currents over long runs with higher efficiency than traditional cables.

EAE has manufactured E-Line busbar trunking since 1973, with ratings from 25 A up to 6300 A, certified to the most rigorous international standards (IEC 61439-6, seismic tests, E30/E60/E90 fire resistance, EMC).

Types

Types of busbar trunking

Bolt-on Busbar

Busbar with bolted connections between modules, ideal for main feeders and applications where modularity and maintenance are priorities.

Plug-in Busbar

Busbar with tap-off boxes that can be inserted along the entire run. They allow multiple power draws without interrupting the line.

Air Insulated Busbar

Air-insulated bars with excellent heat dissipation. The classic solution for medium ratings and standard environments.

Compact (Sandwich) Busbar

Compact bars with solid "sandwich" insulation. Reduced footprint, high fire resistance, ideal for data centres and critical plants.

Advantages vs cables

  • Modular distribution with tap-offs possible at any point along the run
  • Smaller footprint than cable systems, especially at high ratings
  • Simplified maintenance: tap-off boxes replaceable in service
  • Mechanical and fire resistance superior to cables (E30/E60/E90 certifications)
  • Reconfigurability: lines can be extended, moved and reused
  • Lower energy losses thanks to low-resistance connections
