EAE Italia hosts the Assil course dedicated to hospital lighting: focus on regulatory requirements, visual comfort and safety in healthcare facilities.
On 24 October EAE hosted the Assil course on lighting in the hospital sector. The course, made up of two modules, ran from 09.30 to about 14.30 in the Auditorium of our offices at Via San Bovio 3, Segrate.
Module A — Standards and requirements
The first part of the course illustrates the standards and regulatory requirements that influence, or may relate to, design choices in hospital lighting. In particular, it analyses the application of the standards covering both the lit environment and the technical characteristics of the luminaires, highlighting the points only partially covered by the standards, where the designer must make choices to be assessed case by case on the basis of the state of technical knowledge and vision models.
Module B — Visual comfort and circadian light
The second part of the course focuses on the lighting needs of certain hospital environments, with particular attention to both patient rooms and therapeutic spaces (examinations, tests, surgery). The course covers on the one hand the principles of visual comfort (“light and comfort”), translating them into a series of strategies for their optimisation in patient rooms and diagnostic areas; on the other, the principles of so-called 'circadian' lighting, linked to the non-visual effects of the visible spectrum (“light and health”). It therefore addresses the importance of the emission spectrum of luminaires and their integration with the spectrum of natural light for the performance, well-being and circadian rhythms of patients and staff. The theoretical aspects are complemented by a series of examples relating to different types of light sources and luminaires on the market, showing various applications to real cases or cases simulated with software.
The course organiser, Assil, issues a certificate of attendance that can be used with the participant's professional board for the recognition of training credits.
